Redesign of Medi-Cal Delayed
In January, Governor Schwarzenegger announced his intent to redesign Medi-Cal, a publicly funded program that provides health care coverage to more than 6.7 million low-income children and their parents, seniors and disabled Californians.
Denti-Cal is the dental care segment of the Medi-Cal program.
After the Governor's announcement, the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHSA) sought public input and planned to present a redesign proposal to the Legislature in early August.
However, CHHSA reports that "a few key issues still need to be resolved," and the Governor now plans to present a restructuring proposal as part of the January budget.
For more details, see a Medi-Cal Redesign Update (PDF) from CHHSA.
CDA Supports Adult Dental Services in Denti-Cal
The California Dental Association (CDA) has developed information for dentists to share with their patients in support of continuing adult dental services under Denti-Cal.
A statement can be downloaded from the CDA Web site that outlines facts about the potential medical, economic and social impact of not covering adult services.
